Bryson DeChambeau is Built For Speed after Quarantine Transformation
PGA Tour star Bryson DeChambeau has transformed his body and game by adding 20 pounds of muscle in just a matter of months following the return of golf amid the coronavirus pandemic. For DeChambeau, the transformation was a byproduct of the pandemic and shows unbelievable dedication. The uncertainty of the return of golf did not deter him from committing his extra time to improving his game.
The five-time PGA Tour winner was hitting the longest drives of his career at the Charles Schwab Challenge. DeChambeau averaged 344 yards with a 190mph ball speed and finished 5-under-par 65 in the first round at the Colonial Country Club. In a recent press conference, DeChambeau revealed that his mission to gain weight and speed was a spur of the moment decision, in the face of boredom and complacency with his game.
During his training, DeChambeau focused on bulking up as well as increasing his speed training. Quarantine was the perfect time continue to achieve this goal. His mid-pandemic work shows that he focused on what he can control and used his time wisely to attain his new ball speeds and distance on his drives.
DeChambeau finished T3 at the Charles Schwab Challenge (the first tournament after the shutdown), finished T8 at the RBC Heritage and is already well positioned after the opening round of the Travellers Championship shooting a -5 and sitting tied for 10th going into the second round today. This is an unbelievably strong and consistent start considering how much he's transformed his body. With the added speed there is no doubt that DeChambeau will be even more of a threat on the PGA Tour moving forward.
