Considered the most dominant player in professional softball, Monica Abbott is known for not only the impact she’s made on the sport, butalso on those who aspire to play professionally.
The powerhouse left-handed pitcher has been described as the world’s most valuable player in fastpitch softball, with achievements including 17 different championship titles, an Olympic Silver Medal representing Team USA, and recognition as the Most Valuable Player of National Pro Fastpitch and the Japan Professional Softball League a combined eight times. She currently plays professionally for Houston’s Scrap Yard Dawgs and in the Japan Professional Softball League for Toyota Motor Corporation.
In 2016, Monica signed a landmark $1 million contract with the Scrap Yard Dawgs, paving the way for softball players interested in making a career in professional softball. The first-ever $1 million deal for a woman playing U.S. team sports, Monica’s contract made history, and along with it, the opportunity to impact not only the softball but also the landscape of women’s professional sports.
